My interest in website designing began about 16 years ago. I had just started an antique auto running board restoration business.
As this is a small market with almost no local customers it was obvious to me that I needed a website on the internet to get world-wide exposure. At the time I did not have a computer so I hire a professional website designer to build me a website. The site looked very good but even after four months nobody was finding it unless they knew the site's name. When I asked her why there was no traffic she said it just takes more time.
At the time you needed to know HTML coding to be able to build a site, which I did not. Luckily I found a friend that did know HTML coding, and also knew why my site was not being found. Within a month of him revising my site it was listed on the first page of Goggle.
In the last few years it has become possible to built professional quality web sites without the need to know HTML coding. As a result I have been able to build my own personal business site as well as other sites. All have achieved not only first page listings within a month or two, but soon became listed near the top, or at the top of the first page of Goggle with the use of commonly known search words.
It is my belief that without a first page listing with the major search engines a website is almost worthless. I would estimate that probably 90% of web sites are worthless for this reason, regardless of how professional and pretty they may look.
